About Me
“I’ve always loved beautiful spaces, but not because they look perfect. I love spaces that feel like the people who live there.”
I grew up here in Santa Cruz County, and I think this place shaped the way I see the world. Between the redwoods, the coastline, the history, and the creativity that’s always been part of this community, inspiration is everywhere. I still find it when I travel, too. Some of my favorite memories are wandering through old cities, exploring local markets, and noticing the little details that give a place its character.
For years, I found myself drawn to homes, old buildings, antiques, and pieces with a story. Eventually I realized it wasn’t just a hobby—it was how I wanted to spend my life.
That’s what led me back to school to study interior design and start Michelle Silbaugh Designs.
I don’t think great design is about following trends or making a home look like everyone else’s. I think it’s about creating a space that feels authentic to the people who live there. When your home reflects your story, I think it changes the way you experience everyday life. My hope is that people walk into their homes and feel peaceful, inspired, and comfortable being their authentic, beautiful selves.
As a lifelong Santa Cruz local, there’s something especially meaningful about helping people create homes here, in the community that’s always been home to me.
